week in review

Sorry I forgot to update on Wednesday so I will do both Wednesday and Friday in this post.

Wednesday went on in a normal and boring way not much happened. The students did some book work… That’s pretty much it. No trouble or anything….  Friday is when things got hectic. Mr.Iliff was in and out of meetings all day and I was left in charge of the class. It felt rather good when teachers, students and even one of the vice principals came and talked to me instead of the “sub” while Mr.Iliff was gone. The students were giving a couple articles out of a current science magazine and where giving a short 12 question quiz after reading. One student refused to do the work so I sent him to the office. Most students did as I asked of them and were well behaved. One girl was tripped in the hall by a young boy and her knee was bruised quite badly, the boy was suspended for a week…. Well not next week because of Istep testing but the week after that. The day was not bad just a bit rough.

I am a little late aren’t I?

First off I would like to give my apologies for the tardiness of this blog. I am sorry. Ok now that the formalities are out of the way I would like to get this blog-a-rolling.  Every Wednesdays and Fridays, with the occasional Monday should schedules permit, I go to Decatur Middle school to cadet teach. On Friday February 12 I went to the middle school like I have been for the last few weeks. It went by in a rather normal fashion, I take that back Friday had a very un-normal lesson plan.

We played twenty Questions in a less than usual fashion, Mr.Iliff had Microsoft Word projected on to the board and as the students filed in he typed something “take your seats and open your books to pg. 754-755 we are going to play a game.” It was very amusing to see him have whole conversations with students in this way my favorite one came in 8th period which to sum it up ended with: “Kyle we all know you would make a very pretty girl but we have work to do!!!!!” up on the board or when he called typed Megan as Vegan much to the classes amusement.

This was the tone of the day as the students tried to guess what element was in the box in three rounds of twenty Questions. In one class three of the students whose table I was sitting at tried to bribe the answers out of me with candy, I love 7th graders.  The answers were: Round 1, chromium, Round 2, Nickel, Round 3, Oxygen (the kids loved that one an empty box HA!). At the end of the period I passed out two sticky notes to each student and they had to write something they liked about the class so far this semester on one and dislike on the other. That sums up the day quite nicely I hope and look forward to Wednesdays post as we are doing a lab!
